On Demand Literature : Simon’s Shakespeare Summer School : Much Ado About Nothing

Paid Member: £0.00 Organization Member: £0.00 Non-Member: £25.00

Please note, this session has been recorded from a live course and is available to watch flexibly in your own time up to 30th September 2024.

Depending on your schooltime experience, the name “Shakespeare” may conjure feelings of joyful delight, or fearful trepidation!  Wherever you sit on that spectrum, you are welcome to join Simon for the WI Learning Hub’s 2024 Shakespeare Summer School – the aim of which is to help make these wonderful plays accessible, enjoyable and engaging.

We will explore Shakespeare’s magnificent comedy Much Ado About Nothing.

This comprises of five 60 minute classes which took place in August 2024, which means we get to spend five hours on each play, and can work carefully and thoroughly through the drama.

In each class, Simon will take a section of the play, explain the key narrative developments, analyse the themes which Shakespeare is exploring, and read aloud some of the key passages, helping to navigate some of the more challenging sections.  Shakespeare wrote these plays to be performed, and so the aim will always be to bring them off the page and very much “to life” as spoken word.

If you want to read along as we go, then you are welcome to do so, but there is no necessity to, so don’t worry if you don’t have copies of the plays; you can simply tune in, relax and listen if you prefer.

So, whether you are a seasoned Shakespeare theatre-goer, or would just like to dip a toe back into the water after a less than appealing schooltime introduction to the subject, we hope you enjoy this Summer School.
