Please note, this session has been recorded from a live course and is available to watch flexibly in your own time up to 11:59pm on 17th December.

Some clergymen made quite a name for themselves in the Great War – whether that was “Woodbine Willie” handing out cigarettes while he ministered to the troops in the trenches, “Tubby Clayton” of Toc-H offering respite to troops in and behind the front lines, or the firebrand Bishop Winnington-Ingram preaching sermons to the populace back home.  But what was it really like to practice as a cleric during this unimaginable time – we talk a lot about the fate of the fighting soldiers, but a little less about how men of the cloth had to change and adapt to the horrors of war.  Drawing on first-hand accounts, and timed to coincide with “remembrance-tide”, this talk will explore the role of chaplains on the battlefields of WW1.

Zoom recording link to view this session will be included at the bottom of your confirmation email after you have registered.
