Join Simon for another week-long deep dive into one of Shakespeare's most enigmatic dramas: The Winter's Tale. Originally classed in the C17 as a comedy, it is now more often thought of as a romance or a problem play, dealing as it does with complex issues of jealousy, loyalty and even perhaps the supernatural.

In each of the daily hour-long classes, Simon will talk briefly about one of the key themes of this play, and then explore one act of the play in detail, reading key speeches and exploring how Shakespeare crafts one of his most intriguing and psychologically complex dramas.

Whether you’re encountering The Winter's Tale for the first time or returning to it, Simon’s accessible and insightful teaching style makes this complex play easy to engage with. There’s no need to read ahead or have the text to hand; key passages will be read aloud and discussed together.

The sessions are being held daily at 1pm from 8th December to the 12th December.

All sessions will be recorded and emailed to participants within 24 hours. The complete week’s recordings will also be available via our Recorded Course listings at the end of the course and can be accessed until the end of January 2026. Feel free to revisit the material in that time or recommend it to others!

This is a premium course, priced at £25 for WI Members and Non-members.

Zoom log in details will be included at the bottom of your confirmation email after you have registered.
