Field Marshall Archibald Wavell was a military figure who served from the Boer War through until the Second World War, and is renowned for his military exploits.  But he was also a keen lover of poetry and literature, and in his later life compiled an anthology of poems entitled Other Men’s Flowers.  In this talk, Simon will explore some of the poems he selected – well-known, and more obscure.  As well as reading a selection of the poems, this lecture will explore some of the history behind them, and Wavell’s own life story.
