With so many films available on platforms like iPlayer, ITVX, Netflix, Amazon, and Sky, finding a good movie can feel overwhelming. To help you skip the indecision, join us at the WI Film Club – Beyond the Screen! Join our host Vicky for an engaging discussion about the story and themes of the film in a friendly and supportive online session. This could even inspire you to start your own film club within your WI.

This month, we're exploring an entirely new genre of film: Anime. Originating in Japan, anime is a unique style of filmmaking that blends hand-drawn artistry with computer-generated animation. It dates back to 1917 and stands apart from Western animation in both style and audience—anime is often created with older teens and adults in mind, rather than being aimed solely at children.

Our feature this month is Your Name, a critically acclaimed and award-winning romantic fantasy released in 2016. Written and directed by Makoto Shinkai, the film follows the mysterious and emotional journey of two high school students who begin to swap bodies— despite having never met.

We thought this would be an intriguing departure from the usual selections and are excited to hear what you think.

WI Film Club sessions will take place on the 3rd Wednesday of each month and films are selected to encourage discussions on a wide variety of topics which will sometimes tie in with campaigns and notable events.
