Wordsworth, along with Samuel Taylor Coleridge, is often credited with "founding" the Romantic movement in English poetry with the publication of "Lyrical Ballads" in 1798. In contrast to many of the canonical Romantic poets, however, Wordsworth lived to a ripe old age, and so his poetry had a chance to evolve in a way denied to others like Keats, Byron and Shelley.  In this talk, Simon will read a range of writing from across Wordsworth's career, explore the ways in which his style and subject matter changed, and consider how he tried to respond to the rapidly shifting environment of the early C19.
