Available spaces: 250
Host: Dr Simon Gregor
After the War of 1812, the United States' new-found confidence started to express itself in all sorts of ways: geographical expansion and population movement, population growth, rapid industrial development, the growth of new professions, and more. We have been charting some of these trends over the past several months - but what of the political climate in the 1810s? In this month's talk, we will return to some of the key political figures of the day, and explore the rise of a new form of American nationalism, the change of Presidency from one James to another (Madison to Monroe)...and the advent of the so-called political "era of good feelings" which, despite the bonhomie it suggests, was not quite as cosy as its name implies!
