Kyoto was the capital of Japan for over 1000 years. Despite earthquakes and typhoons, fires and warfare, a lot of history has been conserved in the midst of green spaces of spiritual importance. Kyoto is likely the most traditional of Japan’s large cities, with many lively traditions and crafts to be explored.
