Please note, this session has been recorded from a live course and is available to watch flexibly in your own time up to 11:59pm on 9th July.

Those of you who have been following Simon’s talks for a while will know that, besides history, his other great passion is poetry!  In this talk, Simon will explore the life and works of the poet Mary Oliver: born in Ohio, she lived a large part of her adult life in New England, the scenery of which is richly and evocatively described in her writing.  But nature is not the only subject of her poetry – for through nature, she explores the relationship of humankind to the world we live in, our relative detachment from the nature of which we are a part, and the opportunities to reconnect with and learn from the natural world.  In this talk, Simon will share a little of Mary Oliver’s history, as well as reading a variety of her poems and exploring their meaning and significance.

Zoom recording link to view this session will be included at the bottom of your confirmation email after you have registered.
