Some of us left school with a passion for history, while others, perhaps less inspired by the way it was taught, left thinking it was just about memorising dates and never looked back. This new, special course from the Learning Hub is designed to appeal to both groups, offering a rich grounding in a variety of historical periods as well as insights into the process of historical study itself. Led by established Learning Hub tutor and historian Dr. Simon Gregor, the course is crafted to be fun, engaging, and highly informative.
The course follows the structure of a typical A Level history syllabus but is tailored for an adult audience. Sessions will include a mix of lecture-style content, full-group discussions, and small-group activities. Alongside exploring historical events, participants will delve into the nature of historical enquiry and analysis, working with primary sources from each period studied. And the best part? No exams! This course is designed to be educational, enriching, and above all, enjoyable.
Modules
The entirety of the course will be broken up into six terms, each term comprising of ten weekly 90-minute long classes, spread over two years.
We will be studying three modules, across six terms, over the next two years. The modules will be:
Most modules will take a little over one term, allowing us to complete the course within the two-year timeframe. The group size will be limited to enable plenty of time for discussion, and the opportunity to work in smaller break-out groups.
Terms
Future Term dates will be confirmed with exact dates nearer the time, however they will be broken up into the following Terms over the 2 year duration:
Course price
The cost of each term will be £150, for ten 90-minute classes.
The terms will be available to book one at a time to break up the cost over the two year time period.
We will do everything we can to keep days, times and the cost the same for your tuition group for the full two years.
Course texts
Please note, there is no requirement to purchase text books or to ‘do homework’, however Simon will sometimes recommend optional further reading or study between classes for those who want to delve deeper.
